has anyone had any up to date cpd on CPR in practice.
would love to know if anyone has any protocols they use in practice. I am looking to updating all the staff at our practuice so we all sing from the same hymn sheet and dont panic in an emergency

Re: CPR information needed please.

Hi there,

CPR is a bit difficult as there are so many different guidelines available and every practice seems to have different approaches.

RECOVER have recently conducted a systematic review of all the available veterinary and human guidelines and created an evidence-based approach to performing CPR in veterinary patients.

The results were published within the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. The articles are free to download from here: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1476-4431

The findings are really interesting, and provide the most thorough, current recommendations about the best ways to ventillate patients, the depth and rate of cardiac compressions and dosages of drugs to be provided.

Hope this helps.

Re: CPR information needed please.

I wrote the e-CPD webinar using some recently published literature in dogs and cats and people. The first ever veterinary CPR guidelines have just been published in JVECCs. Unfortunately almost all studies are in healthy experimental animals who are put into cardiac arrest or in people (who tend to have heart attacks)
I also wrote a two part article for The Veterinary Nurse on CPR if you have access to that?

Basically the most important thing in full cardiopulmonary arrest is chest compressions at about 100-120 breaths/min and one you've started don't stop for 2 minutes.

Check out the e-CPD webinar and The veterinary Nurse articles if you can

If you or any of your colleagues have an iPhone, you should have a look at 'Dog CPR' - It's a new app that has been produced by Vets Now and is a good starting place. It outlines all of the equipment, drugs and procedures required to carry out 'effective' CPR. Have a look and see what you think :)

thank you

just done it. I have read through it and the cpr i did was on the ball with this. From looking at the drug side of it though we could have used slighlty more atropine but i wasnt far wrong. I will be making a chart for us all.

thanks for that
