For about the last month he has become very needy and attention seeking including starting to fight with some of the neighbour hood cats. He is shut in at night as he brings

Re: Super Needy Cat- HELP needed!

Glad to hear he is a bit better and more relaxed. Hope he manages to continue to relax during the next lot of family changes! Perhaps the weather will be kind and help??? (more rain) as you say he enjoys it... bless. Good luck and give him a stroke from me.

We got a feliway diffuser on Friday and Friday night he slept with his mum and dad until 9:30am Saturday morning. He occasionally has a bit of a piteful meow when he can't find people. We have taken his food out of the kitchen and given him his own area in the living room and have stopped the wet food and just giving him ad lib bics which he is fine with. He goes out a little more (he loves the rain!) but comes back ready for a snuggle.

There is going to be a bit of up heaval this week as one of the housemates is moving out and another is moving in the same day and his dad's 3yr old son is spending the night on Friday and then his mum and dad will be away for the rest of the weekend and then his mum is going away on Monday until a week on Saturday so we shall just have to see how he copes.

Re: Super Needy Cat- HELP needed!

Hey there.

Would always recommend a full health screen though, just in case of anything underlying.

Have a look at SureFlap's CPD on cat behaviour and see if there are any tips you can pick up from that/light bulb moments where you suddenly identify "Aaah, that's the cause(s)!"... Bonus is you get one hours (free) CPD too... although I know that's the last of your concerns right now...

https://www.sureflap.co.uk/vet/cpd

Runs to about 40 mins but stick with it....

Hope your lad settles soon.

?? Behaviour problems originating from stress caused by invading neighbourhood felines(s)? Do you have a cat-flap? Is it secure to just your cat or can it let in any cat? Is you cats feed bowl/toilet station near the cat flap (fearful of being caught eating / toiletting)... or former 'secure' areas of your cats environment now open to threat/ambush?....

Just a few thoughts...

x

[/quote]

He goes in and out through a fanlight window in the utility room which is opened in the morning and shut at night. He has his own food area which doesn't get disturbed and only toilets outside. We have seen one new cat (we think it's new) in the neighbourhood but out the front of the house and Jasper tends to stick to the back of the house. The other cats have always been there and they have been tolerated except when one tried to come in the French window in the summer and Jasper went bananas and saw him off.

Possible progress last night in that Jasper was curled up on my bed but I needed the bathroom before going to sleep but he didn't follow me to the bathroom for once and stayed comfy on the bed.

He abandoned me at some point in the v. early morning and went and miaowed for a while on his mum and dad's window ledge...

I'm not sure about the food but I've had cats go off wet food and spoke to many clients who've said the same. I know food is supposed to be a social time for cats so maybe it's again the attention seeking for why he's getting excited but then he's not bothered about the food.

The rest haven't got a clue, it's sounds like stress. There are behaviourists you could contact. The feliway diffusers I find a great when I know I will be changing routine/home that they settle my brood really well.

Re: Super Needy Cat- HELP needed!

??
