I attended several day courses, run by various speakers, from dog trainers to vets. I decided i wanted to go further in order to obtain some kind of qualification. I too, attended the course by Improve International by Sam Lindley. It was run over a year, and you attend normally 2 days together a month, or every other month. At the end you sit an exam. I thought the course was excellent, and would highly recommend. I now want to go further, and have been looking at different courses ( a friend is doing the Think Dog course, via distance learning, and is enjoying it) I have looked into COAPE, but yes, it is very expensive, and a distance away for me. The only thing that puts me off some of the courses, is the essay writing, as i feel I'm not very good at it. I prefer to attend lectures or practicals. Good luck in which you decide to do !

Depending on how in depth you want to go, the Compass courses are good! their reading lists are fab!

To start u off get How Dogs Learn by M. R Burch and J. Bailey. Also In defence of dogs- John Bradshaw and The other end of the Leash- Patricia Mcconnel . These have both helped me understand not only dogs, but why we are similar yet different.

Improve International run a behaviour course run by Sam Lyndley which is fab. Done over the space of a year and very infomative and practical.

Im in the middle of doing Training for the Future; on of Alpha education courses run by Sarah Whitehead. Im enjoying the course and reading lots of material although have put off doing my next assignment as its and essay and haven't written an essay in years! Need to get going with it though.

The content is really good and you get a list of recommended reading depending on the course you are looking to do.

COAPE and Improve also have a good choice of courses but they are a bit more expensive.

I've just completed a Think Dog course through Alpha Education, very informative and interesting and reasonably priced too.... would thoroughly recommend
