Its hard when clients/friends think the behaviour is "cute". Good luck trying to tell her otherwise. Be firm and knoe that you have advised her to the best of your ability, and hopefully she will have taken on board what you have said

Re: Advice please - virgin bitch producing milk for new family pup

Ask her to make prepayments towards the pyo op so she doesnt get hit by a big bill and need to pts

Re: Advice please - virgin bitch producing milk for new family pup

Totally agree not a good situation to do nothing about. In practice we once had two stray cats handed in together who we assumed was mother & son as the younger of two was still feeding from the female and both cats were adults and if they hadn't been handed in then this would have gone on indefinitely.

I would say that its definitely not good for the older dogs health to let it continue long term with all that milk production she could end up with mastitis or anything. Maybe turn it around to her that way saying that she is actually putting her older dog through a fair amount of stress and worry mentally and physically, in the hope it might make her see sense. You could also put too her that when the younger of the two dogs comes into season it could upset the boat dramatically as she would then have two very hormonal dogs which could lead to aggression etc etc, just dramatise things a little if needed to get through to her.

Just after my dog was spayed and still recovering she had a phantom pregnancy, mothering all her toys and had milk let down also. I remember this being a very stressful time for her as she too had never produced a litter and the poor thing didn't know if she was coming or going so I can sympathise with this dog and maybe that's what you need to explain to her, that what she is doing is of no benefit to with her existing dog or the puppy.

Good luck, sounds like you will need it x
