Does anyone know of any good distance learning/ online rabbit CPD courses which cover in more detail rather than the basics, such a behavior etc. I've looked at Compass but I'm not sure how in-depth in goes and I'd like something a little challenging

Re: Rabbit CPD

Hi,

Here are some of the books Ive used for the Compass course:

Textbook of rabbit medicine - Francis Harcourt Brown.

Rabbit Internal Medicine - Richard Saunders.

Rabbit Lopaedia - Meg Brown.

Rabbits and Hares - Anne Mc Bride.

Blacks Veterinary Dictionary.

Rabbiting On magazine (from 2005 onwards).

BSAVA exotics manual.

Plus many hours of online reading (miami university, medirabbit, RWAF etc).

Hope this helps.

It gave lots of reference material to go away and look at, forums to discuss cases and relevent topics to go away and think about. With these courses the more you input the more you get out of them.

Highly recommend it.

Re: Rabbit CPD

Hi,

I am about to start this course. Which reference books would you recommend?
Thanks :)

Re: Rabbit CPD

I am currently doing the compass course and I am bunny mad and have already set up rabbit clinics in practice but have to say that I have found this course really interesting and quite challenging. The q's force you to go and do some research and I have learnt alot already and am only on module 2. So far, would highly recommend for anyone wanting to do a rabbit course. The price is very reasonable too considering I went on a 1 day course which cost more and didn't learn half as much.

Re: Rabbit CPD

Hi again

I did the course specifically for VNs.

I'm on the last module now, if you decide to do it give me a buzz and I can tell you some books I found helpful for the course.

Did you do the compass cpd course specific for Vet Nurses or the Standard Rabbit Course?

Re: Rabbit CPD

The Compass course is as in depth as you want it to be, that is, it depends how much research you put into the answers. There are basic course notes but the questions force you to go off and do your own independant research which is then up to you to learn as much as you can.

I'm on the last module of the course now and would really recommend it. I went in with a very basic knowledge (and I mean basic) of rabbit health and I now feel like I am at a point where I could begin to think about running rabbit clinics, perhaps for new owners, or even make up some rabbit literature health sheets or rabbit packs for new clients.

Alternatively if you did not want to commit to a long course, Supreme did a series of rabbit webinars a while ago (I think Molly Varga ran them) - I think there will be a link to it somewhere on the forum but these were very good too and covered post op care and anaesthesia etc and rabbit diseases as far as I can remember.

Hope that helps.
