Then they will see what you have done academically as well. This is helpful when it comes to aspects of training such as VN training as it does require you have maths and english GCSE's. If you don have these you can then do the ANA course as an introduction prior to any VN training.

I would then leave it a couple of weeks before ringing as vets tend to be slow to respond as they are very busy usually.

Re: Help Please!!!!

Hi Thanx so much for the advice x I have not got the job yet, I have to write a letter to practice owner which I have done, I think I am going to hand it in, incase it gets lost in the post or something!
Paula

Re: Help Please!!!!

Hiya

First and foremost - CONGRATULATIONS!!

I remember my first day in practice after years of searching! so I know how you must feel!!

First piece of advice I can give is be enthusiastic, I cant tell you how much of a difference it makes when we have a new starter who is enthusiastic and eager to learn! Don't feel silly asking questions! It makes you look keen and interested!

Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, a big part of our jobs is cleaning and if you readily muck in you'll be respected - I've had a lot of new starters in my time that they cleaning is below them

Make cups of tea and you will be an instant hit!!!!

If you get to watch operations - don't feel stupid if you feel faint - I passed out on my first day! and still feel faint from time to time if im sitting in a hot operating theatre, im not squeamish at all but the heat gets to us all. and if you do feel squeamish - you'll get used to it - don't worry

Ask questions if your not sure - i know i've mentioned this but if someone asks you to do something and your not confident or dont know how to - just ask! they understand that you dont know and often forget

by the sounds of it you have a lot of experience with animals under your belt so that will help you massively. how to control dogs, be around them etc is a skill that cant be taught so its brilliant that you've worked in kennels before!!

GOOD LUCK!!! when do you start?
