We do quite a lot of transfusion-type stuff really don't we Angiy!!! It's interesting...

Yes we use Voluven...much larger molecules than haemaccel so stays in circulation and does its volume expansion for a much longer period of time :-)

Well this is the upside..we shouldn't be needing to use it all that often except perhaps as an additive or for boluses ..generally if something needs a whole bag then probably need to be leaning towards whole blood or plasma anyway

Didn't know it was!! But then that's probably because we use it about once a year.... but thanks for the heads up, anyway!

If you are looking for a gelatin based colloid the same/very similar to Haemacell then try Volplex or Gelofusine, I believe they are still available.

If you prefer a starch based colloid rather than a gelatin based colloid then you could try Voluven or Venofundin, both trade names for Starch based colloids.

Pentastarch- better anyway as bigger molecules.
