Its the dogs with the MDR-1 gene problem that are sensitive to it. Any collie even Shelties, Rough collies etc, and the gene has now been found in Finnish Laphunds and other Northern Breeds. These dogs are sensitive to a whole host of other drugs including Acepromazine and benzodiazapines. Their bodies just cant break them down.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There is a genetic test think its about &amp;pound;70 so you can test for it, so if you have a collie/collie x you can see if its ok to give it.&lt;/p&gt;

Seems to work perfectly and haven&amp;#39;t seen any dogs having any adverse side effects to it. &lt;p&gt;Agree with Gillian, Ivomec is great for mange, just (as she suggested) not in collies!!! There has to be careful case selection (breed etc) and get a consent form signed but I have found it very effective in every case. I will look into milbemycin. We have been using a product called taktic to bath dogs in. It is very potent stuff though and keeps setting my asthma off despite using PPE.
