We use for premed for cat neuters with vetergesic - in ery small doses - I know the new one you are meant to need less but it is more dilute - is it easy to measure small

Re: Dexdomitor

Dom and torb make a gorgeous premed, I feel. just the thing for a fractious cat castrate. :)

Re: Dexdomitor

Hi, the volume you use of dexdomitor works out the same volume that you would have used for Domitor.... You need half the dose but it is half the concentration (0.5mg/mL instead of Domior which is 1mg/mL) so if you previously used 10mcg/kg of Domitor to premed a cat with you would use 5mcg/kg of Dexdomitor, but the volume works out the same- for a 4kg cat it would be 0.04mLs of both.

With Dexdomitor you should only need to use half the dose compared to Domitor because it contains only the active isomer of medetomidine. Domitor contains 50% of the active isomer and 50% of the inactive isomer.

It is exactly the same drug (just without the inactive isomer) so recover, sedation etc should be identical, as are the side effects, saying that some people subjectively think it doesn't give quite as reliable sedation at the half dose...

Hope this helps
