As everyone here has suggested Calmivet 5mg/ml is what most practices are using. I locum and have found many practices add the required quantity of Calmivet to a 100ml Water for Injection vial so that the strength is 2mg/ml (same as ACP was) to eliminate the issues with drawing up accurate doses however I am not sure if this is legal/off licence etc so am not at all recommending it but will leave it to you to research. As suggested the insulin syringes are great for drawing up tiny quantities but personally when we tried this last week found them difficult to give intramuscularly as they bend and get blunt easily (and you can't change the needle).

Re: ACP

thanks for that, we luckily have our novartis rep in tomorrow to talk about wormers so i think we will pick her brains about it

Re: ACP

Yep the brand 'ACP' was discontinued but as previous poster said you can get 'Calmivet' which is still acepromazine but it is 5mg/mL rather than 2mg/mL so much smaller volumes are used.

The smaller volumes means for cats etc, that the 0.3 mL insulin syringes are useful for drawing up the tiny volumes- often 0.05mL or less.

It comes from France so you need one of those special prescription/ import license thing.

Micro doses of medetomidine, or midazolam or just opioids alone are other options too, depending on health status of paint and reason for anaesthesia....

Re: ACP

We have Calmivet which is ACP but is 5mg/ml.
