Not sure if this is in the right section so sorry!! I was looking for a wee bit of advice for my bunny.
He had a tooth root abscess nearly a year ago and was given a very poor prognosis i.e. weeks to live as it had gone into the bone

Re: Bunny tooth root abscesses and vaccination

Lol, this site it messing me about, cos I didn't see that you just said you already knew too!

Re: Bunny tooth root abscesses and vaccination

I guess you'd just ring, probably their referrals dept, explain your situation & see what they say!

Re: Bunny tooth root abscesses and vaccination

Whoops, I've just looked back and bouncyfi told me how to contact them.
Thanks!

re vaccination - we used to vaccinate on the basis that they were more at risk of developing the disease (very high myx area traditionally - can remember euthing 14 bunnies in a day before!)

Re: Bunny tooth root abscesses and vaccination

Yes you can fax them questions - give them a call and they'll send you a form to fill in.

Re: Bunny tooth root abscesses and vaccination

Thanks Rachel,

Still in two minds about vaccinating!! ( I know, i know!!) Would feel awful if triggered his abscess off again as that was horrible, but then again would feel awful if he got Myxo or VHD... Diffcult as he is mainly house rabbit and is a big ponce and doesn't actually like going out that much :)

Heard there's now a bunny specialist at Dick Vet School in Edin ( closest vet school to me), do specialists like that ever answer questions from bun worriers?

You just have to be careful to make sure it all goes s/c & none goes on the fur for them to lick. Give them pre/pro biotics too for the gut, although the two we had didn't show any GI signs during treatment.

Re: Bunny tooth root abscesses and vaccination

As for the abcess....we use ultrapen injections every 2 days for bunnies and it works extreamly well.
Thankyou :) Is just difficult to know so nice to hear from someone with lots of tooth root abscess experience. Would hate to trigger off abscess again, as you say he's done so well :) He is also mainly a house bunny and has the occasional day in a low risk garden ( I understand there is still a risk whether he's inside or out). Think I probably will vaccinate him as would feel awful if he got Myxo or VHD, but will also feel awful if vaccination interacts with tra in anyway!!

Thanks again for your help :)
