We've used Slentrol in practice and have had consistent,
predictable weight loss. Side effects can be transient vomiting, if I remember
correctly, oh and it’s only licensed for dogs.

It works really well with owners you feel will
have difficulty with keeping to a dietary regime, (success were family with
lots of children, and the stereotypical little old lady) also, for those who
need guaranteed weight loss, so joint problems, or those needing surgery
soon. Over the 12 month period that you use Slentrol for, you can then educate/train
the owners into a diet/exercise regime as they still need to come in monthly
for reweighs and they can see that weight loss IS possible. It’s not the right
choice in every case, but it’s worth considering…just wish it was licensed for
humans!!!!

Has anyone used Slentrol? Our manager is keen on it (the sales rep must be good), but I'm not so sure (haven't tried Yarvitan or the other one either) as I feel that a quick fix is not always the best, although I wouldn't mind trying it with some of the clients who are on r/d with little success... Any word on side effects or any other negatives?

my experience with Yarvitan is that its a quick fix and once the patients are off it and if client compliance isnt shit hot they just pile the weight on, kinda like us if we lose a lot at once.

have used slentrol once and had much better long term results and my vet swears by it x

I love it! i had a dog that never lost weight i had it on r/d rcw obesity light foods i tried everything! and it never worked till i used reductaid. I sound like a rep!

Re: Yarvatin??

have used the other product and it definately worked.

Re: Yarvatin??

LOVE IT!!!!

We've put our first patient on it! It's a 70kg labrador. He's been on it less than a week and the appetite suppressant has kicked in. Owner is really freaked out! And he's due in in a couple of weeks for his weigh in and diet food.

Also have to say if you need any advice, ring Janssen Animal Health and speak to one of the vets there. They are super helpful and very knowledgeable.

I'm a big fan, and I can't weight to weigh the little tubs!

Re: Yarvatin??

Have had mixed views about Yarvitan however the couple of dogs we've got on it have done really well, more of a case to spur the weight loss on (only go on it after owners have tried diet change rather than used as a quick fix unless obese++++), though one dog did actually put weight on whilst on it!

I've heard about the bran flakes idea from our old RCW rep and this works for those ever hungry Labs (as well as helping anal glands which tends to occur more so in the overweight dogs). I also recommend that a tin of obesity/RD can be cooked and then cut into small treat sized pieces which are good for training or Kongs as low cal treats.

Re: Yarvatin??

Hi, I am aware of Yarvitan though have never tried it.

I know one of our vets advises feeding bran flakes alongside the normal diet. It doesnt cause much weight gain and makes them feel fuller for longer
