Update: I spoke with the MD of Hydratech who are the ONLY manufacturers of non-toxic EG antifreeze today. I've just added all the info and links etc to the site http://www.bluedeath.org.uk/#/non-toxic-eg/4558151771 - check it out. The Comma... one contains a bitterant which is good but it's still highly toxic. Also Hydratech are doing a detox kit, where you can add an ingredient to neutralise antifreeze and it can then be disposed off in drains etc (not that I encourage that)

Harper Adams SU President more on the ball!!! I'm RVC, but I guess our SU have been a bit busy - the 4th Yrs have all been in exams this week and yesterday Princess Ann turned up to open the new building. I'm hoping he circulates the petition next week.

I went into Halfords at the weekend and saw that most of their own brand Antifreeze/coolant and screenwash (which often also contains ethylene glycol) is ethylene glycol based but contains Bitrex a bittering agent to help prevent accidental ingestion. It is indicated on the product containers that this new formula has been introduced since August 2011 which is excellent news. The products mentioned above stated a warning and although did not mention pets or wildlife, indicated the health risks to families and the environment associated with ethylene glycol.

Yes unfortunately it is all to common. I don't think my cat would have lasted as long as he did if I hadn't been as quick off the mark with recognising the signs and dealing with it early on we even cysto'd his bladder but at the time there were no Oxalate in it so referred him to make sure it wasn't anything else but 24hrs after referring they found crystals so the best thing for him was to be put to sleep :-(. It is beyond me how they can get away without at least putting warnings on the bottle

Propylene Glycol is less toxic and is used in food processing systems and water pipe systems, apparently it is available but is not compatible with all vehicle types
