Cumbernauld dog training club does NOT advocate prong collars, my mother is one of the trainers, and I have attended for years. There is another club in Cumbernauld which started classes 2 years ago approx which do use them (I shall not name them) the trainer is a guy called John and he left the training club to start up his own classes. The club are in no way connected with him and do no allow harsh training methods.

Not all APDT classes are bad. The one I took Jack to was fantastic. Was run by Jan Debnam, who was training by Anne McBride at Southampton Uni. It was all about positive training, with clickers and food. She did the world of good for Jack. Turned him from a crazy out of control staffie to a crazy in control staffie

Im from stirling so like 20mins away from hamilton, I can recommend andwalls school of pet dog training 01259 761921....its on the kennel club website, they might be able to help you or alternatively point you in the direction of someone closer to you who can. V.good and do the good behaviour reward scheme thing.

Thanks everyone for your help! I have found myself not really feeling the ADPT classes for the same reasons. There are a few in my area that I would NEVER suggest to anyone!

I went to a class that ws run by APDT people and they recommended prong collars and shock collars!! Even on the exam day dogs were wearing prong collars and external examiners never commented.

I stopped going as really objected to this and also the frequent slagging off vets that was happening.

I'd recommend going onto APDT (Associate of Pet Dog Trainers) website and seeing who is local to your area. All trainers registered with the APDT work on reward based training, they are also more regulated that other people who may have just done a day's course and decided they're now dog trainers.

I have a client that stays in Bellshill with an extremely nervous 16wk collie so I thought I'd go on recommendation rather than just a list of classes for her to pick from. TBH I have no idea how far Cambuslang is from Bellshill! Do you have the details? tx
