The following procedure takes place in the preparation room:

Fur is clipped away from the desired area, leaving
a generous margin around the surgical incision. Firstly going with the
hair and then against it. Using a size 40 clipper blade.

The patient is then vacuumed to remove any loose
hair. Also the table and floor are vacuumed too.

If the patient is to undergo limb surgery the
distal portion of the limb is bandaged

A 50% Hibiscrub/water solution is used.

Gloves are worn to prevent cross contamination.

Gauze swabs are used to scrub the patient as these
are lint free and therefore leave no “bits” on the patient.

Circular motions are used starting at the surgical
     site and working outwards.

Followed by a bicycle spoke action starting at the
surgical incision working outwards towards the unclipped fur.

A hibitane/water/surgical spirit solution* is then
used on the area. And wiped down using swabs.

A repeat spray is then performed.

The patient is then moved to theatre on a trolley.

The following procedure takes place in theatre:

Patient positioned for procedure.

If limb surgery is to be performed then the leg is
suspended to prevent contamination of surgical site.

A repeat spray is then performed using hibitane/water/surgical
     spirit solution*.

The area is then allowed 5 minutes to dry prior to
     draping.

*hibitane/water/surgical spirit
