This is just a post to ask if everyone would consider doing a display to warn clients of the dangers of anti-freeze and to get them to check if their car is leaking anti-freeze as this is obviously the time of year people are preparing

Re: Anti-Freeze

So sorry to hear about your cat - I would be so devastated if that happened to my fluffy boy - hope you are ok (((hugs)))

I'm not in practice at the mo, but I am a cynic by nature, so am very torn about whether the effects of antifreeze should be put up on displays. I guess in a vets, the people reading it will be pet owners, but as we all know, there is a fair few people out there who are very anti cats - some who would think nothing of leaving a saucer of antifreeze out.

I realise I might sound like a scaremonger, but some of the posts I have seen on pet forums begger belief!

Cats seldom crap in their own garden as we all know, so I can understand why people get so agitated about cats, but there is no excuse for deliberate harm. Yet I have seen threads started about for eg 'How to deal with cat that keeps messing in my garden?', and the amount of people who suggest poisoning is unreal! And usually these are posters with a long posting history, helpful record etc, but people just seem to lose it when it comes to cats! I have even heard of normal (real life lol) people who will pick up a cat, remove its collar and hand it in as a stray - just because of the toileting thing!

Yes it is a huge deal if a cat repeatedly messes in your garden, esp if you have kids, but with cats who don't use their litter tray - what can you do? Apart from keep them as indoor cats which IMHO is unethical if they have been used to going out. The neighbours whose gardens I know my cats use - I offer to clean - they always say no.

Sorry - I went a bit off topic there - or should that be a lot off topic

Re: Anti-Freeze

So sorry to hear about your cat, I would be devastated if that happened to one of mine too. Its so frustrating that there isn't a more effective treatment. I think the practice I work at has a warning display up (I'm part time) but I will check when I go in x

Re: Anti-Freeze

Hey, I'm so sorry about your Olly. I can only image how you're feeling. I always do an antifreeze display in practice, and was thinking about it yesterday actually, so I'll out it up a bit earlier this year.
((hug))
