I can thoroughly recommend the Textbook of Veterinary Surgical Nursing by Carole Martin and Jo Masters (Butterworth Heinemann). Its a relatively new text published in 2007 but I think its a must for all surgical nurses! I struggled to find a suitable text while studying for my Dip a few years ago and wish that this book had been available then.

It has chapters on soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures and pre/post and peri op care all explained to an advanced level.

depending on what you are looking for, the BSAVA manual of fracture repair is a very good one

Do you have a local referral clinic you could ask if they run any CPD evenings or even Bristol uni. There is so much to discuss from pain management, wound care, support, rehab (not like the Winehouse), bandages the list goes on............

If you could get to go spend some time in a referral practice that may help you out too.

if there are any particular questions yu have feel free to ask and I'll try and answer them

south wales. *sigh* never much going on down here. I fear I may be way down the list for any CPD funding too! it would be nice to have a book to refer back to aswell, though I suppose you get decent notes from that sort of course, unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of going on one!

well once my Diploma is over I may consider it. there are a few courses out there. CPD solutions run a few on ortho nursing. Where in the UK are you based???

surgery/preop/aftercare for different procedures .. havn't found anything that doesn't go beyond basic general surgery aftercare
