So, pre-medicated 10kg dog dose would be 4(mg) x 10 (kg) = 40 (mg) * 10 (mg/mL) = 4 mL. As I said I draw up in two syringes...Give IV to effect, slow bolus, it can take up to 60 seconds to take effect, if you give it too rapidly your patient may experience induction apnoea (esp little white fluffies). I also keep the 'leftovers' (if any) nearby, in case the patient lightens up, say when moved for rads...titrate a little IV, 0.5 mL +/- and it helps.

Re: Propofol dose

arh that makes sense thank you!Just had a brain block, our practice has sheets telling you the dose for each weight but I would rather be able to work it out myself exactly. Yes we tend to draw up a little more in case. Recently the propofol does not seem to be as affective? Has anyone else had an issue like this, could it be a bad batch or just coincidence?

Dont suppose you could tell me the same for vetergesic and alfaxan too and Ill jot them all down now!?:)

So you divide 12 by 10 = 1.2mls

I will say this though the dose I have stated is a guide. Propofol should be given to effect. Some patients require more some need less. I all depends on the effects of the premed. Hope this makes sense.
