Its surprising why CAW teach 20kg as the guideline weight. Have spoken to them and they say that no book actually has 10kg written, just normally says cat/small dog 15ml/kg and medium/large dog 10ml/kg. Its no surprise that so far the majority were taught 10kg, any taught by CAW?. In the RCVS practicals they always tell you the tidal volume for the animal so you do not need to use the weight of the animal as a guideline for the tidal voulme.

When I did my practicals last year the calculation given for the O2 flow rates task was 10ml/kg over 10kg and 15ml/kg under 10kg.

Hi, I was taught the same as you and have just sat my RCVS exams and that is what they teach on the syllabus currently.

Hi, I am 3rd yr degree nurse and last term was taught the same as your student. Over 20kg = 10ml/kg and under = 15ml/kg
