Samples that are warm and have opportunity to evaporate then yes you will get crystals growing but if there is a lot of bacteria in the urine which are allowed to multiply this may significantly affect the pH and allow crystals to dissolve.

Try it for yourself next time you get a good urine sample with struvite in - look at some fresh and see how crisp the crystal edges are, do a pH and keep some at room temperature and look at it a day later, do a comparitive pH- see if it has changed and see how many more crystals you have or if you have a significant increase in bacteria and crystals with rounded edges which are dissolving

Hope that makes sense - makes perfect sense to me but I am not always the best at describing stuff

Re: Urine sample, please back me up!

I was always told in practice by other nurses that they dissolved in time. I thought crystals formed over time. So in an old sample your likely to see crystals that were not there originally when the sample was produced. Now NuttyNu saying they dissolve over time? Is that just a mistake or do thery form then dissolve?

Re: Urine sample, please back me up!

I would say no as well. Crystals are known to dissolve over time as well so if you are looking for crystals, it wouldn't be accurate results.
