My practice are thinking of swapping to it, but have heard from one vet that when they swapped from Iso to Sevo they got a lot more deaths under G/A. Just wondered what the general feel was for nurses working with Sevo compared

Re: SevoFlo

I've used both sevo and iso and am happy using both. Sevo is much less potent so makes mask inductions much smoother. The main thing to get used to is the difference in the dial - with sevo you have a dial that goes from 0 to 8 (a much bigger range than with other volatile agents). This therefore takes a little getting used to.

Although I'm happy using Iso, I do prefer sevo. I'm sure that you will love it too!

Re: SevoFlo

[quote user="Gillian Mostyn"]

Used it with t-pieces and circle (although sevo meant to degrade in the prescence of soda lime) but never had a problem - very easy to use and much nicer recoveries.
Which circuits do you use as the sevo guy said to use lacks as they were best but used more sevo whereas the rep said closed circuit as use less! - confused!!!

Re: SevoFlo

I love our Sevo and no increased mortality or morbidity.

Re: SevoFlo

We used sevo in my practice. Id never used it before until I started there. We have never had an anesthetic death and they have used it for years. To be honest the deaths are probably coincidence due to other issues rather than anesthesia and the blame was put onto the sevo! I really like it! You use it a 3% for maintainence, but you use a lot less than iso, for example, the vapouriser needs no where near as much topping up with sevo as you would with iso. Patients come round quicker with sevo and its great for caesers, neonates are revieved so much quicker. It is more expensive to by, but like I say you use a lot less. Sevo doesnt smell as potent as iso so it is ideal for masking down if you need to and patients go down really quickly.

Hope this helps. I was a sevo novice too, but I dont think I would like to ever go back to iso!
