I think it's a group for vets - you may have to join before you can see the posts

Horrible Horrible thing to ever see!!

Surprise surprise the poor dog a HUGE GSD, who was spayed with that toxic mixture died while in recovery.
yes we used to use 1ml local in 5 mls water for any thio 'blows' - I was told it corrects the ph from the blow so it doesnt slough and also has the benefit of stopping it stinging so dog is less likely to lick or chew at it - dont know if that is true or just another fairy tale i have been told

We didnt have a scavenger either but we did have the window that opened wire meshed so we could open that and get some air through. I used to get some stonking headaches when we had a few ops in - and hit the deck a couple of times - my boss said it was because I hadnt had breakfast and I say it was because I had too much bloody ether. I used to work for this really old vet then and he used to drop horses with either ether or chloroform (cant remember which now but it was a hairy experience walking a horse round until it went down) - I can remember rapinovet coming out I think it was either 88 -89 . Non of the vets wanted to use it because of its colour primarily. I remember us getting a free vial of the stuff - and it was still there 5 years later when I left. We use Alfaxalone (same drug-ish) and its great. With regards to sloughing skin that's why its always recommended an ic cath. is placed for all GA cases. not much extra cost, can always add it to cost of anaesthesia.

Re: Anaesthesia induction disscusion on FB!

I've only ever seen one case of sloughing due to thio and that was with 5%.
