Nick, thanks so much for all the info - i have never even heard of MH but it certainly points in the right direction, i have printed the pages to take into work tomorrow as we will no doubt be discussing the case. Your a legend!
Never seen a similar case, but Nicks post is v interesting. Just out of interest what induction & inhalation agents were used?

Re: Traumatic injury, any help please?

malignant hyperthermia I have seen a couple of times - but if temp was normal??What was the temperature at TOD

Have also come across this a couple of times (admittedly in cats but I dont see any reason why it shouldnt happen in dogs too) Both cases were following diaphragm repair where ippv had been maybe a little too enthusiastic and over inflation of the lungs knocked out the apneustic centre.

I have seen a prolonged apneoa and bradycardia following marcain splash block which took 10mins of ippv .

Re: Traumatic injury, any help please?

Greyhounds and sight hounds are susceptible to malignant hyperthermia, usually seen in combination with anaesthetic gases. Pigs are also prone to suffering from it. Was more common with halothane. althou having just googled it other inhalation agents can cause it such as Sevoflorane. the animals that are susceptible is a genetic disorder

just wonder were CXR taken? If not there might of been an injury to the chest that was not know about prior to Sx?

hear is some info on malignant hyperthermia

there will be up to date info available I shall see what I can come up with

here are some research papers into the disorder:

Puncture wounds to the neck not deep but skin had been pulled away and was saggy and swollen. no internal bleeding and no major arteries were affected. Seemed to go in to shock and hyperventilated and eventually died. It was when I was a volunteer before nursing so sorry not know much more. Certainly didn't get the care you gave yours but sounds exactly same and same breed also.

Sorry not helpful but noted the comparisons between them.
