Made me wonder if the instruments that we use in practice that are stamped 'Made in Germany' are actually made in a sweat shop in Pakistan.

Re: Panorama - Surgery's Dirty Sectrets

[quote user="Nick Shackleton"]

Scary indeed that only one trust in the UK inspects all incoming instruments with microscopes etc...... Although you wouldn't think it was neccesary would you? You expect surgical instruments to be precision made, reliable and safe - not only for the NHS but for the veterinary world too.

I must admit though, that until now, I never gave a second thought about where or how they were produced.

Re: Panorama - Surgery's Dirty Sectrets

Not shocked here. Watching last nights programme I am now in no doubt where they were produced.

Its bad that they were the product of sweat shop labour, its bad that they were of poor quality, its bad that legislation allows them to be mis labelled but what is really bad is that all these instruments had been purchased and the money spent on them was lost. I did keep a list of the 'brand names' involved so I knew to steer clear of them in future. if anybody is interested in brands to watch out for please pm me I prefer not to post them in public
