Monitoring equipment to use, normal paramaters, flow rates, temperature to maintain, and surgical environment?!?! Thanks!!

Re: Help with iguana anaesthetic

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What size/weight is the iggy? (They can vary a LOT with age and health obviously)

Is it clinically well or near death??

How is the iggy going to be anaesthetised? What agents, maintenance etc....

Reptiles under GA will stop breathing - you need to be using a ventilator. Therefore RR is what you set it as..usually around 5-10 BPM depending on size...

Temp - WARM!! Keep lots of heating on in the room and provide as much heat as you can. You are unlikely to provide too much, but too little is a big problem for recovery.

We use a doppler to measure HR, although you can hear the HR with a stethoscope if the iggy is big enough... HR depends on size...

Flow rates depend on your system and size of iggy...but are unlikely to need to be above 1l in most patients on a T-piece.

Surgical environment - same as any other species.

Sometimes a soft toothbrush can be best for aseptic scrubbing.

If you want to post more specifics I can be more accurate with my advice....

Good luck
