Have got to the 30kg size so the calmivet dose would be 0.3ml but have read that

Re: CALMIVET QUESTION
Does anyone have problems with the bottles leaking once you have used it for a while? Apparently there is some sort of bunge you can put in the top of the bottles to stop them leaking when drawing up an injection, does anyone have any ideas what they may be called?

thanks
I have used these before - not with something as small as a Calmivet bottle admittedly but I think they should still be small enough?

http://www.millpledge.com/Products_Range/Fluid_Therapy/Infusion_Accessories/Fluid_Therapy_ANISPIKE.html

I used to use them in conjunction with either an anisite or anivalve

hope this helps

e.g. mental 30kg lab in for castration = (acp 2mg/ml) 0.05 mg/kg = 0.75mls, and bup (0.3mg/ml) 0.02mg/kg = 2mls given i/m

but calm 40kg newfie = at above dose should be 1ml, but i would likely give 0.5mls acp with 2.6mls bup i/m

the mental 30kg lab would probably get 0.5mls acp if given with 0.3mg/kg morphine instead of buprenorphine.

the sums above use acp at 2mg/ml, we are also using calmivet at the same dose rate, i work on the same principle as above with it, although one of my vets it starting to think the effect of calmivet may not be as potent as acp?

Was actually easier to re-do the charts than i thought and we routinely use 1ml syringes so i think we'll be ok even with the small doses. So a 10kg dog would need 0.1ml. 25kg dog would need 0.25ml. This is the calculation we use a its the same as the one we used for ACP (except we divided by 2 as its 2mg/kg) and it works pretty well.

Re: CALMIVET QUESTION

Thanks, have done the maximum dose as 0.25ml xxxx

Re: CALMIVET QUESTION

We tend to find if you go over the 0.25ml dose the patient's take a very long time to come round and a long time to get to standing. We use 0.25ml as our maximum dose and it seems to have worked so far, (fingers crossed!).

Re: CALMIVET QUESTION

If anyone has done the premed charts for calmivet could you email me a copy to save me some time!!
