found an old one kicking about at home. It quotes 8.75mg/kg (combined) iv q8hrs and im, sc q24hrs.

Phrin the quote about doses up to 25mg/kg was taken from the formulary!

oral dose is as steph says 12.5-25mg/kg po q8-12hrs.

the 20mg/kg dose is given by my previous employers, am guessing they go on the oral dose and go for a midrange dosage.

Phrin they are under the same heading but there are different dose rates for the iv and po

I think...and I can check this when I get into work, that the formulary states 12.5-25mg/kg for PO amoxycillin but can't remember what it actually states for IV use damn it lol

we always use 20mg/kg and dilute so its 100mg/ml so much easier than 60mg/ml.

we Always dispose of unused made up stuff straight away, and try to teach the students that once it goes straw coloured (usually after 20mins) that they shouldn't use it

I'm pretty sure that the formulary has augmentin and synulox under the same heading, and quotes the same dose for both

Wish I had a formulary to hand!

And Nick, with regards to the human dose quoted - is that still ok for cats and dogs?

Ohh I want to be all sarky and say that I could eat 10lb of the finest dark choc and raisins and be OK, but my 70kg (ok 75kg!) canine counterpart wouldn't be ok! So how is the human dose OK for animals?

But I know that Nick will win with his superior knowledge - no sarcasm meant now

Oh and forgot to mention must be injected slowly over 15-20 mins otherwise you are likely to see blood pressure dropping.

And why VN's (at least this one) tend to obsessively hunt down part used vials of augmentin and DOOP them!

I think the dose is the same as synulox tablets - 12.5mg/kg? Happy to be corrected though!

It should say in the formulary

Yes it is 10ml to make up - at my last practice we were told to use 6ml, to make it 100mg/ml - never saw any problems when this was administered IV, but obv going against the data sheet!

Also need to get owners to sign a cascade consent form
