Judging by its teeth though it will need to come in regularly for dentals. What other premeds do you use

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit

We charge extra to the client. I've not been at my practice long so never actually looked to see how much extra it is.

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit

Fair enough. It is a lot more expensive, so I guess in a long procedure it would be more economic.

Do you mean your costs - or do you charge extra to the client for using sevo? (sorry if I'm being nosey!)

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit

We use Sevo for inducing anaesthesia as they dont react to the smell of it. TBH I'm not sure about why we swop back to Iso but I'm gussing its to keep costs down for the procedure. Any high risk patients are kept on Sevo but it does add a bit to the price of the GA.

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit

at my last practice we did domitor and torb then pre oxygenated via mask for 10 mins then gave the ketamine. metoclopramide and metacam were also given peri-operativley. then maintained via mask on oxygen and iso (if required)

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit
We induce anaesthesia with Sevo via mask. Then maintenance with Iso avia ET tube.
We usually just gas down most rabbits and then place an ET tube. (sevo in one practice, iso in the other.) I just don't like injectable anaesthetics in rabbits.

Just curious - why do you use a different induction agent to maintenance agent?

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit

We induce anaesthesia with Sevo via mask. Then maintenance with Iso avia ET tube. Works brilliantly. I have used triple combo and propofol i/v in the past and this is by far to safest with the quickest recovery times.

Re: Ketamine reation in a rabbit

Propofol can be given, tends to work well especially in older/compromised rabbits.
