I have actually had a digi thermom break, fortunately enough it was outside the patient, the metal end came off revealing a springything inside. God forbid that it broke inside the patient!!! This is the reason I like to use the thermomadom.......its a sheath that covers the thermometer, not only protecting it from the likes of poo, but also to limit the amount of bacterial contact etc..... plus point being that you chuck the "dom" away once finished with - leaving you with a sparklingly clean thermometer!!

I dislike the way that some staff use the thermometers and don't clean them after use!!

I don't like the idea of thermometers just being wiped over with a bit of hibiscrub.

Re: Ear Thermometer

Sorry???
I have seen the ear ones used once, about 8 years ago. We got the AccuVET professional veterinary thermometer fromVetdirect. We did not rate this as it was very difficult to use as patients got fed up of waiting whilst there was this probe in their ear.... But it was the cheapest one we could find at about £11 so this maybe why... more expensive ones / better ones may work really well and i like the idea about using them for monitoring temp throughout ops as not always poss to get to the back end.. but we had to send ours back!!
