we did use meddis, but unless you ensure the rinse time of one hour, the problems occur- we had rattling cat chests.

our tubes are a mixture of pvc (2mm to 10mm cuffed and un cuffed), and magill red rubber 11mm to 14mm ( i have yet to fine a suitable pvc alternative)

magill tubes tolerate repeated autoclaving, but the portex connectors will melt.

our tubes are stored in drawers, i dislike the et tube racks- open to dust etc.

one tip when using milton, it does tend to discolour the pvc tubes, and leaves a residue in the creases of the cuff. we always inflate the cuffs before immersing them in the milton, prevents above issue, and tests cuff too.

After that they are rinsed for 2 minutes under running water to make sure there's nothing left on them.
Here is another thread with a bit more info:

http://www.vetnurse.co.uk/forums/t/5626.aspx

But for ET tubes, a thorough scrub with Hibi, rinse and then soak in Milton or Medizyme is efficient. Over time prolonged Hibi soaking can ruin the red rubber tubing more so I would imagine if they are regularly left in solutions overnight. Milton is fine for tubes though - did your colleague say why they thought it wasn't okay?
