Here is my rather long winded story of Peanut, need some advice RE medication from some

Re: rabbit needs help!!! ?pasturella,?E Caniculli

Have you been on Rabbit Rehome website? There are many members on the forum that have had to deal with these situations and might be able to give you advice and extra tips. I would recommend trying to see a specialist rabbit vet.

When my rabbit was very ill I also gave bio lapis and fibreplex for rabbits. This is just for extra electrolytes and nutrition if your bunny is not eating as much as he should and might build up some strength.

My rabbit was very ill and unfortunately was put to sleep during surgery as she had diverticulitis but she was not eating and seemed to recover very well with these extra supplements.

Re: rabbit needs help!!! ?pasturella,?E Caniculli

Poor bunny! I would def echo the above comments and be guided by your vet. My bunny had myxi recently, he was in quite a bad way, but as I couldn't really say he was suffering, I gave it a go, and with lots of nursing he has made a full recovery and is completely back to normal now. He had oral meloxicam, 1 drop/kg SID. Intially on enrofloxacin (baytril) injection EOD, then changed to engemycin inj EOD.

Hope he is doing better!

Re: rabbit needs help!!! ?pasturella,?E Caniculli

We find for a lot of respiratory cases baytril isnt enough - we use either zithromax (azithromycin) or penicillin injs - although obviously both off licence and always use avipro with either. I woul ensure he is definitely treated for e cuniculi thoroughly - lapizole recommends 28 day course I believe.

I would definitely get to a bunny vet to get a good work up and meds. Try fresh herbs to get him eating. Good luck

Re: rabbit needs help!!! ?pasturella,?E Caniculli

I had a rabbit (a few years back now) that had pasturella. He was on the verge of being put to sleep so we tried terramycin LA (of course off license), I injected him every few days and he did get a lot better. I would strongly advice that you do seek the advice of a good vet though, as they may have a safer option for you.

Re: rabbit needs help!!! ?pasturella,?E Caniculli

The treatment protocol would depend on the diagnosis. If you are determined to pursue treatment for him, my advice would be to take him to a vet where they will be able to find the underlying cause of his problems and treat appropriately. It sounds like you have provided excellent supportive care but he needs a proper work-up!
