Can't remember - will check tomorrow!) IM, lots of warmth, IV fluids (100mls/kg/24hrs is maintenance rate for bunnies - think that comes from the anaesthesia for VN book) and metoclopromide inj.

We mask as none of our vets have done much bunny tubing, and don't like to faff about trying - would rather keep ga time as short as possible. Always give O2, plus iso if required.

Antisedan dose is given half IM, half IV (from 2009 grads RVC notes), and then of course make sure they are eating post op, offer fresh greens, syringe feed if necc. Usually discharge with some sort of probiotic, and adv o to keep indoors for 24hrs if is an outdoor bun.

Re: Rabbit GA

For gut stasis rabbits we use both metaclop and zantac, along with metacam, s/c fluids and syringe feeding.

Re: Rabbit GA

We use:

Medetomidine (0.15ml/kg) and Ketamine (0.05ml/kg) - given IM

Torbugesic (0.05ml/kg) - given IM, as a top up if they arn't sleepy enough

Metacam (0.2ml/kg)

Engemycin (0.3ml/kg)

20ml S/C GlucoseSaline

One of our vets tubes and the other doesn't. Rarely do they need any Iso/Sevo.

Reversed with Antisedan (0.05ml/kg)

Once the bunnies are round from the anaesthetic we offer fresh greens, if they don't eat within a hour then we syringe feed supreme recovery mixed with baby food and water.

Re: Rabbit GA
As above, very good protocols. Only thing I've heard differently is to use Zantac. Metoclop works on stomach eptying and motility but zantac works with the intestine motility and movement which is more important. Once the gut moving the stomach will do what it's supposed to...... .... still use both though.
Will look into using zantac instead of metoclop... Thanks

Just reread and do you mean use instead of or as well as ?

I like using Oxbow Critical Care post op for feeding. The mix is a lot finer than Recovery so can be easier to administer to the rabbits who really don't like syringe feeds and smells nice too!

Re: Rabbit GA

Thought of another.
It is as follows.... 10mls/kg warmed nacl s/c fluids pre and post ga, premed of vetergesic and metoclopramide and metacam all s/c, the domitor and ketamine given i/m with masked O2, then sometimes tubed or tightly masked with or without isoflo depending on procedure, length of procedure and vet. Antisedan is given @ half domitor dose for recovery initially, occassionally we need to give full dose but the majority of times recovery is good and quick and we send home with Fibreplex, and give the 1st dose when recovered enough and give a 2nd dose @ discharge to show the O's- post op phone call after 24hrs to chk all ok, then post op check in 48 hrs.

Hope this helps.
