As I recall I was told best to reduce their water intake and take any toys away, someone has since told me its NOT best to reduce water or take toys away.

I've never had a client ( ie big time breeder etc) who has any objection to vet appt and consequent tx - perhaps I've just been lucky!

I would always refer to either VS or HVN with behavioural cert (via phone initially) if at all unsure

Re: False pregnancy

My collie x used to get them ( yes I was a bad and uneducated owner who didn't get her spayed until she was 4) and she used to mother toys. She had this ball that she would have to take out on walks with her and one day she dropped it in a river and it floated away! She was so upset by it all!

Re: False pregnancy

Lots of exercise is supposed to help, if you want to avoid galastop, isn't it?

And yes, I thought removing the toys wasn't really effective too.

Re: False pregnancy

You have 2 options - galastop or time.

I know that diuretics (or water deprivation) are sometimes used to reduce lactation, but it will do nothing to reduce prolactin itself so IMHO is pointless.

Removing the toys will simply make them anxious - I doubt it will shorten the length of time the pseudopregnancy lasts. But I don't know for sure....

Re: False pregnancy

My Dog had a false pregnancy after we spayed her. Hers was really bad, she was mothering toys, lactating etc etc. I was told to take her toys away too but as soon as i did she was so anxious, unsettled, crying, searching for the toy, and got herslef so worked up. I didnt sleep for a whole night for her crying so much! Once i gave them back to her she soon settled down again so i left her with them. we used Galastop in the end! Worked very quickly and she used to lick it from the syringe!!! Yummy! :-)
