We currenlty use a tpeice but find it a real pain when doing

Re: mini coaxial bain-does anyone use it in practice?

Thanks for your replies
I had tried to use the argument of lower fresh gas flows with the lack but was told that the o2 is only £8 a cylinder and we just aren't busy enough to justify it.same with the ade tho I know that its a great system as have used it before. So the circuit arrived and was a real pain to set up as needed extra attachments and was not at all what I was expecting it to be! Hopefully try it 2mo and see how it is!

Re: mini coaxial bain-does anyone use it in practice?

I have used a mini Bain many years ago. and as stated before you do require the same flow rates as with a T-piece/Standard Bain circuit.

The advantages include that the tubing is coaxial and there aren't two tubes to get tangled with . Also IPPV can be performed with this circuit whereas long term IPPV can not be performed with a mini lack due to the increased risk of re-breathing of expired gases.

Both circuits have there pros and cons.

Hope this helps

That's why we have mini lack, and use it as our main small patient circuit.

Re: mini coaxial bain-does anyone use it in practice?

I've never heard of a mini bain, but I would be stressing to your boss that the flow rates for the bain (and presumably the mini bain) and t-piece are 2.5-3 x minute volume, whereas the flow rate for the lack (and mini lack) is only 1-1.5 x minute volume - so they would be saving lots of money on gas by investing in a mini lack!

Have you thought about a Humpreys ADE? Yes its expensive to buy, but you only need 0.5-1l/m for cats/small dogs, and 1-2 l/m for dogs - even huge dogs only need 2l/m! You would save tons in gas!

Our very money concious practice has just invested in a second ADE for the other branch after seeing how much they saved at our branch. Its well worth it, and its such a fab circuit!!!!!

Yay for the PEEP valve!
