And the animal MUST have been seen in the last 12mths by a VS. Any other POM meds must have the vets personal OK before we even put up the drugs, let alone dispense. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We have charts up detailing flea and worm meds, admin times (ie every 3 mths etc) and any potential interactions - ie a nurse or receptionist would not be able to give out Advocate &amp;amp; Milbemax together, especially to a collie type.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-size:10.5pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:small;"&gt;(a) authorises each transaction individually before the product is supplied; and&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-size:10.5pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:small;"&gt;(b) is satisfied that the person handing it over is competent to do so,&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-size:10.5pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:small;"&gt;and it is an offence to supply other than in accordance with this paragraph.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Using the above legislation we are having a written policy authorised by the Principal Vet that allows dispensing of Drontal &amp;amp; Frontline (Both NFA-VPS)by RVNs/reception on the basis they understand dosage/side effects/correct advise to clients.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;font-size:12pt;mso-bidi-font-size:8.0pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-bidi-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:AR-SA;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Any POM-Vs such as Milbemax/ Stronghold / Frontline Combo&amp;nbsp; will have a different policy in that the animal will have to have been seen within 12 months AND have authorisation in the clinical history that it can have a repeat prescription.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;font-size:12pt;mso-bidi-font-size:8.0pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-bidi-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:AR-SA;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;It is ultimately the Vet&amp;#39;s decision as to what constitutes a reasonable amount of time between routine health checks!!&lt;img src="http://www.vetnurse.co.uk/emoticons/new/Thinking_smiley.gif" alt="Thinking" /&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;font-size:12pt;mso-bidi-font-size:8.0pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-bidi-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:AR-SA;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Other POMS such as Loxicom/Fortekor etc will also have to have the authorisation for a repeat in the clinical history &amp;amp; also have to state when the animal has to be seen again ie w/in 3 - 6 mths.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;font-size:12pt;mso-bidi-font-size:8.0pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-bidi-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:AR-SA;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;RVNs/reception&amp;nbsp;may&amp;nbsp;make up the repeat prescription drugs, sign the label then the vet checks &amp;amp; double signs.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0pt;mso-layout-grid-align:none;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Garamond;font-size:12pt;mso-bidi-font-size:8.0pt;mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-bidi-font-family:&amp;#39;Times New Roman&amp;#39;;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:AR-SA;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;We are a small practice so can make this happen but am sure in larger, busier practices it won&amp;#39;t always be achievable!&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
