I have used the keratex hoof disinfectant and though expensive has worked a treat in the past.

Thanks vey much, I'll try that. My fella lives out, (aways has done), and he's never had it before. It's been wet and mild recently, so I don't know if that's had anything to do with it. He get's his feet picked out 2-3 times daily, so I was a bit surprised when I saw it. It's not awful, but I just want to nip it in the bud.

I've had really good results with a mix of 1/3 milton 2/3 water. Spray or pour on and scrub in with a brush on a hoofpick - wear old clothes though as it flicks and stains! Do a couple of times a week until clear and then once weekly in wet weather.

Mine lives out, I've recently started using field paste from Red Horse and it's really really good.

In bad cases of thrush or white line disease my trimmer recommends borax soaks

good stable management is a big factor - keep your beds decent and clean, no deep litter, also no standing around in wet muddy fields for long periods. keep the hooves picked out regularly, and try using dilute iodine as well.
