Curious to know how we are all checked out. Are we all automatically checked out? Or. Does the RCVS simply rely on us telling them ie being honest? Not too perfect a system then, if this is the case!

If a criminal charge is not yet proven (whatever that charge may be for and however we feel about the basis of the charge - even as stomach churning as this is) then I assume nothing can be taken into account when considering the person for entry onto the register? Innocent until proven guilty of course; wouldn't want to bar anyone wrongly accused and found innocent. Of course, there can be no case to answer despite evidence to the contrary...or the case falls apart for a technical reason - in which instances there is a basis for querying (at least) if this is a suitable person for inclusion in the Register? Who are the RCVS to be a judge and jury if the Law Courts cannot prove guilt? Difficult. Mind you, the Disciplinary Committee seem to do their own thing on a regular basis (my own opinion of course) so who's to say what the RCVS might decide/have the pwer to do?!

A conditional discharge is different though - he IS guilty but no punishment was meted out; just behave yourself (in the manner we prescribe) from now on mate or you will be sentenced (punished)... In this instance why did he get accepted onto the Register? Confused.

Perhaps we should put our questions to Nick Stace? What do you think? Is there a 'SOP' somewhere in a filing cabinet at the RCVS for these cases!

All in all - it's a worrying puzzle.

:-((
