We are starting on twitter but only to assess interest and develop the system further. Facebook will be next and ultimately a website containing info etc. Don't worry about false alarms as I do everything I can to contact people to make sure cases are genuine. That's the beauty of twitter, I can check before I retweet. Even though the service is not yet live we've had a great interest and hope it continues :-)

I used to work for one of the larger animal charities and we used to put out local alerts on the radio. We thought that was a good idea but it does have the potential to backfire when it starts panicking owners and every symptom automatically becomes 'parvo' because then you end up with really sick dogs and non infected dogs concentrated in the same area either in or around the practice so you are very effectively helping to spread the disease you want to prevent. Its a good idea but might need a bit of tweaking rather than tweeting
